City of Canterbury

Located in the magnificent city of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, only 17 kilometres south-west of the CBD, the City of Canterbury is a treasure chest full of exotic foods, unique shops and diverse cultures.

A feast of Flavours | Campsie Food Festival 2011

The Mayor of the City of Canterbury, Cr Robert Furolo MP, is thrilled by
the feast of flavours on offer at the 2011 Campsie Food Festival,
Saturday 4 June, from 10am – 4pm.

"The Campsie Food Festival just keeps getting bigger and better and is
an event not to be missed," Mayor Robert Furolo said.

"This festival is seriously about food, with 60 food stalls lining
Beamish Street, with cuisines from all over the world: Chinese,
Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, Greek, Himalayan, Colombian, Turkish, and
Korean.

"The Campsie Food Festival is affectionately known as the Seoul of
Sydney – reflecting the predominant unique Korean influences in
Campsie with local businesses, residents and community groups,
associations and clubs.

"This year we will have a special Korean percussion performance from Di
Dim Sori, who specialise in traditional Korean drumming and dancing.

"The Korean Seniors Group will also be performing and showcasing the
elaborate colourful Korean traditional costumes. They are quite unique
and a great aspect of Korean culture.

"And, a food festival wouldn't be complete without an eating
competition - we have two - a Nandos Chicken eating comp and a Kim Chi
eating comp.

"The food festival doesn't stop there – centre stage is our kitchen
stadium with cooking demonstrations from 2010 MasterChef contestant
Alvin Quah, and noodle making demonstrations.

"This year we have incorporated a new element to our cooking
demonstrations - a Mystery Ingredients Challenge. One of our guest chefs
will have to cook up a storm with mystery bag of groceries which will be
revealed to them after they are on stage!

"I'm really looking forward to this year's Campsie Food Festival. We
have so many new and interesting elements, including a dedicated Campsie
Food Festival website and facebook page.

"Our website features local businesses, restaurants, ingredients, and
recipes, as well as the festival program, stallholders and sponsor
information.

"If you've never been to Campsie, the Campsie Food Festival is the
perfect time to come and see and try first hand what Campsie has to
offer – great food, shops, clothes, culture and community spirit.

"This is one of Sydney's biggest food festivals, by one of the 15,000
people to indulge in a feast of flavours and great atmosphere.
"The Campsie Food Festival is definitely an event not to be missed,"
Mayor Robert Furolo said.
