The Mayor of the City of Canterbury, Cr Robert Furolo MP, has declared the 2011 Campsie Food Festival a huge success with approximately 20,000 food lovers converging on Beamish Street to indulge their taste buds at one of Sydney's biggest Food Festivals.
"The Campsie Food Festival has become one of Sydney's biggest food festivals, and each year, more people from all over Sydney come out to experience the amazing atmosphere, entertainment, and of course, delicious food from all over the world," Mayor Robert Furolo said.
"Every year we try and bring new and exciting things to the Festival and this year, we transformed Anzac Park into an exciting theme park with fun rides, activities and entertainment for children and families to enjoy.
"Our Celebrity Cook, 2010 MasterChef contestant Alvin Quah was a popular crowd favourite, as he took to centre stage to show the audience a few of his favourite Malaysian recipes.
"Our International Guest, Executive Chef Cao Siquan of China also cooked up a storm on centre stage, tantalising the audience with samples of his signature dish, Braised Sea Cucumber.
"Well-known Celebrity Chef Charlie Yan, had audiences amazed at SBS Stage, as he pitted his skills against a mystery bag of ingredients to create three succulent dishes, much to the delight of the crowd, who got to sample his creations.
"Food lovers also got to sample food from around the world with 60 stalls dishing out delicious exotic cuisine including Thai, Korean, Brazilian, Colombian and Fijian to Greek, Senegalese and Turkish.
"The amazing live entertainment from Sydney Hellenic Dance Company, SBS Pop Asia, Michelle Mutyora and cultural performances from Sydney Koreans Seniors Group and Chinese Classical Dance had the crowd on their feet throughout the day.
"Band Stand at Anzac Park was amazing, as the Georges River Stage Band, Salvation Army Band Campsie and the Riverwood Squadron Air League performed to an appreciative crowd.
"And of course, our KimChi and Nando's Peri Peri eating competitions at this year's Campsie Food Festival had the crowds buzzing with anticipation, laughter and intrigue, as contestants took to the stage and stepped up to the challenge.
"Congratulations to the winners of the two competitions, what a fantastic effort in front of a huge audience, we hope you enjoy your prizes, including hampers from Ayam and Nando's.
"We also had a great range of workshops with a fun and friendly atmosphere, including a Noodle Making Workshop and Canterbury Community Harvest Workshop, which showed adults and young people, how to enjoy savings and satisfaction from growing their own produce.
"It was great to see people from all over Sydney enjoying our beautiful City with great entertainment, cultural performances and delicious food - so many people were impressed with this great festival.
