City of Canterbury

Located in the magnificent city of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, only 17 kilometres south-west of the CBD, the City of Canterbury is a treasure chest full of exotic foods, unique shops and diverse cultures.

Protect Your Car with a Free Immobiliser

The Mayor of the City of Canterbury, Cr Robert Furolo MP, is encouraging local residents with high-risk vehicles to protect their car against theft by installing a free car immobiliser as part of Operation Bounce Back 2011, a national campaign to prevent motor vehicle theft.
"Car theft is a major problem in most major metropolitan areas, and the City of Canterbury is no exception," Mayor Robert Furolo said.

"Many residents believe that their car is too old to be of interest to opportunistic car thieves, but in fact, cars older than 10 years of age are most commonly stolen.

"Increasing the security level of older cars can be as simple as fitting an engine immobiliser, and that's why, we've brought back Operation Bounce Back in 2011.

"In partnership with the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council and local Police, Council will be giving away 150 free, fully installed vehicle immobilisers worth $200.

"Every year, almost 100,000 cars are stolen throughout Australia which equates to one theft for every seventy households or 270 thefts every day.

"But, there are some things you can do to reduce the risk of your car being stolen like parking your car in a safe, well-lit, or well-travelled area at night and parking off-street in a garage when at home.

"You can also close all windows and lock all doors when leaving your car unattended and ensure you never leave any valuables in plain view.

"But the most important thing you can do to improve your car's safety is to install a car immobiliser.

"We want to ensure our City is a great place to live and work, and by helping to prevent crime such as motor vehicle theft, we can protect our great lifestyle.

"I encourage residents with older cars to take advantage of this initiative and install an immobiliser for added piece of mind - and best of all, it won't cost you anything," Mayor Robert Furolo said.

Immobilisers are being offered to residents who own an at-risk vehicle manufactured prior to 1998. The offer ends 30 June 2011.

To find out if you're eligible for a FREE car immobiliser phone 9789 9594. To obtain a free immobiliser you must show proof of your car registration and drivers license.

Operation Bounce Back is a joint initiative between Canterbury City Council, NSW Police Camspie and Ashfield Local Area Commands and the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council.
