The Mayor of the City of Canterbury, Cr Robert Furolo MP, is pleased to welcome the 2011 Campsie Food Festival, celebrity cook 2010 MasterChef contestant Alvin Quah to the City of Canterbury.
"Now in its twelfth year, the Campsie Food Festival has become an opportunity for food lovers to satisfy cravings and their appetite for foods from all over the world," Mayor Robert Furolo said.
"Part of our love for food is our thirst for knowledge on how it's made, what flavours work together, what exotic ingredients are used and where to buy them.
"The Campsie Food Festival will tantalise taste buds as our celebrity cook 2010 MasterChef contestant Alvin Quah takes to the stage, demonstrating his flare for food which impressed MasterChef judges George, Gary and Matt.
"Alvin will cook two dishes - Malaysian fried noodles and Malaysian chicken curry incorporating products from our sponsor Ayam.
"These simple dishes are bound to be packed with flavour and impress audiences, providing them with useful tips on what to cook at home for hungry families.
"Two other chefs will share the stage with Alvin at the Campsie Food Festival - one will complete a Mystery Ingredients Challenge. Our popular fruit carver is taking to the stage this year to cook up a storm with mystery bag of groceries which will be revealed to him after he takes the stage!
"We will also have a noodle making demonstration and of course samples for everyone to try.
"The increased popularity of cooking shows has demonstrated the importance of fresh food and quality ingredients - they are in abundance in Campsie, what's more, they're not only fresh, but cheap!
"Another feature of this year's festival will be workshops on how to grow your own garden, thereby having a great range of fresh produce at hand, in your backyard or on your balcony.
"The Campsie Food Festival is a feast of flavours, with over 60 stalls, a cooking stage, the SBS radio stage, cultural performances, eating competitions and rides for kids - it's the Seoul of Sydney, reflecting our cultural diversity and great community spirit," Mayor Robert Furolo said.
